The police command in Anambra State and other security agencies have repelled an attack on their combined convoy at Afor Nnobi Junction in Idemmili South Local Government Area.

The combined security team, who were on a public confidence building patrol, drove from Awka to Onitsha, Upper Iwka, Nkpor, Obosi, Owerri Road before moving down to Nnobi Junction where some unknown gunmen confronted the tactic convoy.

The gun battle between the hoodlums and security operatives took the entire market area unawares as everybody, including journalists on the convoy scampered for safety.

The security operatives made of the Nigerian Police, Army, Navy, NDLEA, NSCDC, Immigration and DSS, repelled the attack that lasted for two hours.

Four of the hoodlums were killed during the gun battle while two officers were injured and taken to the hospital for medical attention.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng, who led the tactic combined team spoke with journalists after inspecting scene of another failed attempt by the hoodlums at Umunze in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

“For me it was a joke, that’s the way I looked at it, because any reasonable person will not come to attack a convoy like this made up of the Military, the Police, the Civil Defense and every other person in it. And I think they paid heavily for that attempt,” the Police Commissioner stated.

Mr. Echeng called on the people to ignore the threats and come out on the November 6 to exercise their civic responsibility without any fear as proper security had been put in place to secure lives and property during and after the election.

“It is meant to build confidence in the people, to tell them that we are on ground and that they can come out to and exercise their franchise come sixth of November without threat to anybody.

“We are out here to encourage them, sensitize them and also to tell those who want to make trouble that we have the capacity to deal with anybody who wants to come out to make trouble on that very day,” he boasted.

Radio Nigeria correspondent, who was on the security convoy, reports that a similar attack was also repelled at Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area by another team of joint security operatives on the same day.
