ANAMBRA RE-RUN ELECTION: INEC TALKS TOUGH

REPORTER: KEVIN EKEDIEGWU

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned against vote buying and thuggery as it conducts re-run election on February 3, 2024.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Anambra State, Dr. Queen Agwu, gave the warning during a media interaction at the INEC headquarters in Awka at it prepares to conduct supplementary election in Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal constituency and Orumba North/ Orumba South Federal constituency.

She said the interaction was to call on the media to sensitize, educate and inform members of the public within the affected areas about the coming election.

Dr. Agwu pointed out that the election was coming on the order of court for the Commission to conduct re-run election in 21 polling units within the two federal constituencies.

The REC, who emphasized that the Commission was prepared for the election, said they had followed all the processes as demanded by the law.

She assured the electorate that security arrangements had been put in place to ensure that the election would hold seamlessly.

Dr. Agwu therefore urged voters within the affected areas to come out and exercise their civic obligation.

She advised candidates standing for the election to sensitize the voters to the need to vote for them instead of using thugs to disrupt the election.
