POLITICAL ANALYSTS CALL FOR BAN ON POLITICIANS INSTIGATING ELECTORAL VIOLENCE

Some political analysts have advocated ban on politicians found guilty of instigating electoral violence.
They made this known while contributing to a radio Nigeria Enugu Zonal Political programme, “Political Watch”
One of them and Special Assistant to Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State on Special Projects, Mr Nnabuife Abara said politicians intentionally mobilized youths for electoral violence especially when they were not widely accepted by the people.
He regretted that such politicians never allowed their children or relatives to be part of the practice and urged youths to always resist such enticements.
Another guest, the Senatorial Candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC in Anambra Central District, Chief Tony Ezekwelu while urging INEC to be committed to transparent elections, encouraged Nigerians to shun money politics.
Chief Ezekwelu called on security agencies to be alive to their responsibilities by ensuring peaceful and smooth conduct of the general election.
The Public Relations Officer, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC Enugu State Command, Mr. Danny Manuel Iwuchnukwu identified lack of patriotism among Nigerians as the major cause of violence during elections.
He called on the institutions responsible for the prosecution of electoral offenders to discharge their duties in the interest of the nation.
Callers in the programme stressed the need for sustained voter education and campaign against electoral violence.
