INEC DEPLOYS SENSITIVE MATERIALS AHEAD OF DECEMBER 5 IMO NORTH SENATORIAL BYE-ELECTION

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has distributed sensitive materials to the six local government areas that constitute Imo North Senatorial District ahead of the Saturday December 5, 2020 senatorial bye-election in the area.

Addressing journalists at the premises of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Owerri, during the dispatch of the materials, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo State, Professor Francis Ezeonu, said all smart card readers and other sensitive materials needed for the election were ready and intact.

He said the materials would be taken to Registration Area Centres by Friday December 4 preparatory to deployment to polling booths on Saturday.

Professor Ezeonu expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness and called on the electorate to exercise their franchise as the commission was determined to ensure a credible election.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Isaac Akinmoyede, said about three thousand, seven hundred police officers had been deployed to ensure adequate security of lives and electoral materials before, during and after the election.

Some party agents and election observers, who spoke with Radio Nigeria during the distribution, expressed satisfaction with the level of transparency exhibited so far by INEC.
