IMO STATE ASSEMBLY SERVES IMPEACHMENT NOTICE ON THE SPEAKER

The Imo State House of Assembly has served impeachment notice on the Speaker of the House, Chief Iheanacho Ihim over alleged ten count charge of gross misconduct.

Consequently, the Speaker was asked to step aside while the lawmaker representing Onuimo Constituency, Mr. Chinedu Offor was elected an Interim Speaker to pilot the affairs of the house pending investigation of the allegations leveled against Chief Iheanacho Ihim.

Briefing newsmen at the end of plenary which held behind closed doors, the Interim Speaker, Mr. Chinedu Offor said twenty one out of the twenty seven lawmakers that constituted the house endorsed the impeachment notice.

Mr. Offor pointed that the lawmakers were angered by the decision of the speaker to unilaterally recall the suspended Local Government Chairmen without recourse to objections raised by members of the house.

Mr. Offor who was in company of his colleagues said part of the resolutions of the lawmakers was his emergence as the interim speaker of the house to pilot its affairs.
He also announced that the Majority Leader of the House and representative of Owerri Municipal Council, Chief Lugard Osuji had been replaced by his counterpart in Owerri North, Mr. Lloyd Chukwuemeka through a letter signed by fourteen members of the Action Alliance in the house.

The embattled Speaker, Chief Ihim is yet to react to the development as he hurriedly adjourned the pleanary and left the chamber with the suspended Majority Leader.

This is the second time, Mr. Osuji is being removed as the Majority Leader of the house since 2015 when he first assumed the position.
