FG COMMITTED TO CREATING MORE JOBS
The Federal government says it has put measures in place to address the rate of unemployment in the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari stated this in a message to the 13th Convocation of the Nnamdi Azikwe University Awka in Anambra State
According to President Buhari, efforts are being made to supply adequate power to industrial areas to enable employers of labour to create more job opportunities .
The President while congratulating the graduates for their efforts urged them to explore opportunities offered through the N_ Power Programme, Bank of Industry Youth Entrepreneurship Support Programme and the Central Bank of Nigeria as well as Bank of Agriculture Support Schemes to become self reliant.
President Buhari who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Professor Anthony Awuka said Government had put in place a number of programmes to boost the employability of graduates of tertiary institutions.
Earlier in an address of welcome, the Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikwe University Awka, Professor Joseph Ahaneku who announced that the convocation would be the last in his administration, used the opportunity to present his stewardship.
The 13th Convocation which is for the 2017/2018 academic year had a staff of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN Enugu National Station, Dr Chika Obi Okonkwo who was conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science.
In an interview, Dr Obi Okonkwo who was full of happiness for having accomplished the academic pursuit noted that it was not an easy task to accomplish.
Dr Obi Okonkwo pledged to put in the knowledge she garnered in her work for better productivity in the corporation.
The Zonal Director of FRCN Enugu National Station, Mr Ike Okere who led other members of staff to the occasion, congratulated Dr. Chika Obi- Okonkwo for her achievement and advised other staff members to take a cue from her to improve on their academic qualification.
On his part, the General Manager, Radio Nigeria Purity FM Awka, Mr Uchenna Chukwuedo while commending Dr Obi-Okonkwo for the additional qualification emphasised the need for staff members to be in tune with modern realities.
A total of six thousand graduates got first degrees, one hundred and eighty two, Post Graduate Diplomas, Seven hundred and sixty three Masters Degree while two hundred and sixty nine bagged PHD on the occasion.
Many dignitaries including Traditional rulers,State Governors, Legislators and the Academia attended the ceremony .
