EBONYI STATE GOVERNMENT SIGNS SIX BILLS INTO LAW

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has directed all Commissioners in the state to furnish the State Fiscal Responsibility Commission with the details of abandoned projects under the supervision of their Ministries.

Chief Umahi gave the directive while signing six bills into law at Government House Abakaliki.

The Bills include a Bill to prohibit quackery in Orthodox Medical Clinical Practice, Agricultural Land Development Authority Bill, and Private Education Institutions Bill.

Others were Neighborhood Watch Bill, Miscellaneous Offences Bill and Revenue Amendment Matters Bill.

Presenting them for assent, the Deputy Speaker Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Odefa Obasi Odefa explained that five of them were sent to the House as Executive bills while the one that prohibits quackery in orthodox medicine was a private member bill.

He pointed out that the Bill on Agricultural Land Development Authority was aimed at promoting optimal utilization of land for agricultural purposes while the one on private Education Institution was enacted to fight proliferation of schools.

Governor Umahi had while signing the Bills commended the Lawmakers for been diligent to their passage pointing out that the punishment for infringement on some sections of the Revenue Bill was imprisonment.

He noted that the State Government would find it difficult to function without the signed Laws and charged commissioners to study them especially the one that deals with procurement.

Some members of the State House of Assembly and the State Executive Council witnessed the signing of the Bills into Law.
