A BILL IN FAVOUR OF THE DISABLED PASSED IN ANAMBRA

The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill to provide for full inclusion of persons with disabilities into the society.

The bill is said to prohibit all forms of discrimination meted against the physically challenged persons in the state among other things.

Speaking on the importance of the bill, the speaker of the house, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu expressed joy that the bill would enable the physically challenged persons gain a lot of benefits from the government without hindrance.

The bill that was accented by Governor Willie Obiano took effect from yesterday.

Speaking shortly after the plenary, the Chairman Joint National Association of Persons Living with Disability, Mr Lawrence Nwanolue thanked God that the bill saw the light of the day.

He expressed joy that, employment issue among other things were captured in the bill, stressing that a board will be set up by the State government to ensure full implementation of the bill when accented to.

Our Correspondent quotes, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Disability Matters, Mr Chukwuka Ezewuzie as saying that the passage of the bill was to domesticate the International law of persons with disability which Nigeria was signatory to.
