YOUTH CORPS MEMEBRS BEGIN CAMPAIGN AGAINST SEXUAL VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS

Youths have been advised to report any form of sexual harassment to the relevant authorities.

The President of Publicity Community Development Service (PCDS) of National Youth Service Corps in Enugu State, Mr. Gideon Disu, made the call during an interactive session with students of Government Secondary School Enugu on sexual violence.

A member of the publicity Community, Miss Karis Ikeokwu, highlighted forms of sexual violence, which included rape and child sexual abuse.

Miss Ikeokwu identified excessive gifts and invitation to secluded areas as part of signs of attracting victims of sexual abuse.

Also, the Vice President of the group, Miss Vivian Ezechukwu, enumerated unwanted pregnancy, emotional trauma and sexually transmitted infections as the effects of sexual abuse on victims.

A representative of the Women Aid Collective (WACOL) Mr. Miracle Banigo, stated that the organisation had a mandate of assisting victims of sexual violence get justice and urged students to report any form of harassment always.

One of the students, Master Ezejiofor Chimezie, thanked the corps members on behalf of other students noting that they had learnt a lot from the presentation.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, the Principal of the school, Mr. Ifeanyi Onyia expressed gratitude to the Corps members for their efforts and stressed the need for establishment of social clubs in school to foster campaign against sexual violence.
