Electoral Officers in Imo State Urged to be Neutral as Governorship Candidates Sign Peace Accord

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo State, Professor Francis Ezeonu has charged electoral officers in the State to maintain neutrality in the discharge of duties during this Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

He gave the charge at the Commission’s office in Owerri during the administration of oath of neutrality and allegiance on the electoral officers from the 27 Local Government Areas of the State.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner warned that anyone who contravened the electoral guidelines would be prosecuted.

Professor Ezeonu explained that more than twenty thousand persons had been trained to work as ad hoc staff in more than four thousand polling units in the State.

Meanwhile, Governorship candidates of political parties in Imo have signed a peace agreement to be of good conduct during and after the  general election.

Speaking during the event at Police Command headquarters in Owerri, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Dasuki Galadanchi warned politicians against acts capable of jeopardizing the peace in the area.

According to him, anyone caught inciting violence during the elections would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo State, Professor Francis Ezeonu assured the commitment of the commission towards conducting free, fair and credible elections in the area.

He promised a level playing field for all the candidates contesting in the elections.

Four fake soldiers in military uniform working for an unnamed politician were paraded at the event.
