WIFE OF NIGERIA’S FIRST MILITARY HEAD OF STATE DIES AT 97

A former First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Victoria Aguiyi Ironsi is dead. Lady Aguiyi Ironsi, who died on Monday at the age of 97 in Umuahia, Abia State, was married to Nigeria’s First Military Head of State and Nigeria’s first indigenous Army General, Late General Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi Ironsi.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, in a condolence message expressed profound sadness at the death of yet another iconic Abia woman, who became a personification of the finest ideals of public service. The statement described as a resource person to successive First Ladies in the state, noting that she carried herself with great dignity and charisma.

The Governor noted that the death of Mrs. Ironsi, 24 hours after the death of Mrs. Adanma Okpara, had philosophical significance as they were both great historical icons. Governor Ikpeazu, on behalf of the Government and People of Abia State prayed the Almighty God to grant her soul eternal rest and console the Aguiyi Ironsi family
