VIGILANCE GROUP RESCUES 2 KIDNAP VICTIMS, RECOVERS VEHICLES IN ANAMBRA

Local security operatives in Anambra State have rescued two kidnapped victims.

The vigilance group also recovered a Toyota Highlander SUV with with registration number NSH 398 HA and a Toyota Camry car with registration number BRS 941 AA and handed them over to the police.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, says preliminary information shows that local security operatives intercepted an alleged seven man kidnap gang along Awada Obosi at about 9pm on Thursday.

In an attempt to arrest the criminals, six out of the seven gang members escaped and abandoned both the victims vehicle and their operational vehicle.

The statement says the seventh person arrested was lynched by an angry mob and set ablaze before police operatives could arrive the scene.

According to the statement, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng, condemns the act of mob action by some members of the public who resort to jungle justice whenever they arrest suspects in respect of criminal allegations.

He, however, urges the public to always exercise restraint and endeavour to take such suspects to the nearest Police Station whenever they are apprehended.

Meanwhile, the statement indicates that the police command has initiated operation aimed at arresting the fleeing gang members and suspects who took laws into their hands by setting ablaze the arrested suspect.
