TRAGEDY AS TRUCK CRUSHES ABOUT FOUR PERSONS TO DEATH IN AWKA

About four persons have been reportedly killed and several others seriously injured when a truck carrying cows lost control and rammed into vehicles at Kwata Junction, on the Enugu Onitsha expressway in Awka, Anambra State.

The incident, which occurred around 2pm, Friday afternoon, caused heavy traffic as angry mob set the truck ablaze.

Some of the eye witnesses told Radio Nigeria that the driver of the trailer lost control around Aroma junction, descended down to Kwata Junction where many vehicles were waiting for traffic light to pass them.

They narrated that the driver was advised by those, who noticed what happened to plunge the vehicle into the drainage but he refused and decided to ram into vehicles, leading to the death of some persons.

Up to seven cars were damaged before angry mob set the truck ablaze with the cows burnt alive.

Among the victims was a dispatch motorcycle rider and a small boy hawking on the road.

Meanwhile, men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Command were on ground to evacuate the bodies of the deceased and injured persons.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the FRSC, Mrs. Florence Edor, said the command would soon come up with a statement on the incident.
