TALK TO YOUR YOUTHS TO EMBRACE — DIG BEGS IGBO ELITES

Reporter : AMECHI ODO

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) incharge of South East zone, Dr. Joseph Ogbenike, has called on Igbo leaders to explore dialogue towards resolving alleged marginalization, which may be provoking restive thoughts in the minds of their youths.

He made the call when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor David Umahi at Government House Abakaliki.

Dr. Ogbenike explained that he was in the state as part of his tour of South East zone to enlighten the elites on Operation Restore Peace recently launched in the area to address increasing attacks on police and other public Institutions.

He described the security situation in the zone as a trying moment for Ndigbo but warned that nothing could be achieved in a democratic setting through the barrel of gun.

The DIG therefore called on elites in the South East to call the youths to order, noting that statistics of police men killed showed that majority were Igbos.

This development, according to him, calls to question the essence of the agitation when the majority of the victims are their brothers.

Governor David Umahi said the people of the zone felt sad about the killings and destruction of police stations but pointed out that the violence was being fuelled by fake news, which must be checked to make headway towards improving the security of the country.

The Governor claimed that the attacks were perpetrated by the people of the zone and charged the police not to wait for order to neutralize anyone who attacked them.
