SOME WOMEN IN ENUGU PROTEST OVER INCREASING REPORTS OF THEFT OF WOMEN’S UNDERWEARS

Some concerned women in Enugu State have expressed worry over the increasing reports of theft of women’s underwears for alleged rituals.

The women made the plea when they staged a peaceful protest to Radio Nigeria Enugu over the increasing rate of molestation on women and reports of theft of women underwears for rituals.

The women numbering over twenty had placards with inscriptions such as “Say no to sin’, we are humans not animals”, “Stop the rituals”, “Girls are not money producing machine” and so on.

The leader of the group, Reverend Emmanuela Akon decried the rate at which women were molested especially the recent development of underwear snatching, hence the need for women to come together to voice their concerns.

Corroborating the story, a Pastor at Gospel Church Enugu, Mr. John Okonkwo, who was alarmed by the development, said that many women had come to him for counseling over the issue.

He noted that most of the victims found it difficult to open up to the public about their experiences.

The group also called on women folk especially girls to always watch their movement and report any case of molestation to appropriate authorities.
