Ebonyi State Government says it has borrowed eight hundred million Naira to pay November salary as a result of recession.
Governor David Umahi stated this while addressing APC party stakeholders at Government House Abakaliki.
Chief Umahi urged the people of the state to brace up for economic challenges brought by the recession, noting that it was not peculiar to the country.
“This is End times as predicted in the Bible, the situation in Nigeria is totally because of bad leadership. In November Ebonyi State Government borrowed the sum of N800 million to pay salary of November 2020,” the Governor stated.
He stated that his administration had increased youth empowerment fund to three billion Naira while the beneficiaries would be screened online.
The Governor said Local Government Chairmen were directed to obtain loan from the bank to provide Christmas palliatives to the people of the state.
“I want to challenge people holding political position to help the downtrodden members of the society, we must brace up, not we Governors have totally done very well,” Governor Umahi remarked.
According to the Governor, a committee whose membership will cut across party lines will be set up to equitably distribute the palliatives.
