POLICE VOW TO ROOT OUT KILLERS OF ANAMBRA LAWMAKER

The police command in Anambra State has promised to work in concert with other sister security agencies to ensure that the mastermind and foot soldiers responsible for the decapitation of a serving lawmaker in the state House of Assembly are speedily brought to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng, who stated this while briefing journalists at the command headquarters, Amawbia, described the incident as heinous crime against the society.
“Anambra State Police Command condemns this barbaric act by savages pretending to be fighting on behalf of the people. Indeed the Police, other security agencies and defenseless civilians have been at the receiving end of similar gruesome attacks in the past by these enemies of society and progress.
“The Police on its part (sic) will do everything allowed by law to bring perpetrators of these killings to justice. May souls of the departed citizens rest in perfect peace,” the Police Commissioner prayed.
He said the Nigerian Police Force, Anambra State Command stands with the Governor, Mr. Chukwuma Soludo and the entire people at this moment of grief, promising that plans had been concluded to take the battle to all nooks and crannies where the hoodlum operate.
According to the Police Commissioner, the command appreciates the unequivocal stand of the state House of Assembly and the state government on improving security and enhancing safety of the general populace as no stone will be left unturned until purveyors of violence are totally eradicated, to make the area safe for growth and development.
Mr. Echeng used the opportunity to condemn in strongest terms, the mindless attacks on non indigenes resident in the state and called on all leaders of thought to do all within their power to bring to an end these targeted killings in the larger interest of the people and nation as a whole.
The Commissioner of Police confirmed that the headless bodies of the House of Assembly member, Mr. Omechukwu Okoye and his aide, Cyril Chiegboka, had been recovered while promising that all leads gathered so far were being explored.
“A relation of Hon. Okechukwu Okoye reported to the Police in Ekwulobia, Aguata L.G.A. that he had reason to believe that a headless corpse allegedly lying along Nnobi – Ideani Road was that of the lawmaker, who was abducted alongside his aide, Cyril Chiegboka, on 15th May, 2022 at Oraefi in Aguata L.G.A. of Anambra State.
“Police Operatives accompanied him to the scene and found the claim to be true. The headless body was recovered for preservation and autopsy.
“Later same day, information was received that the head of the lawmaker was seen at Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government Area, which in recent times has been the epicentre of attacks by unknown gunmen on security forces, Vigilante groups and defenseless civilians,” he narrated.
Mr. Echeng promised that police, on its part (sic), will do everything allowed by law to bring those behind to justice.
