OVER 2,000 TEACHERS TRAINED ON COVID-19 PROTOCOL IN ANAMBRA — ASUBEB CHAIRMAN

The Anambra State Government says it has trained over two thousand teachers on COVID-19  protocol as schools reopen in the state. The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board  (ASUBEB), Mr.  Patrick Ugbaja, made this known in Awka when members of State House of Assembly Committee on Social Development Goals, Economic Planning and Donor Agencies,  visited him on a familiarization tour.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the training was in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).  The Universal Basic Education Commission ,  (UBEC) was established in 2004 with a mandate to formulate policy guidelines, prescribe the minimum standards for basic education in Nigeria and ensure effective monitoring of standards across the country.

UBEC is also responsible for improving transparency and accountability in basic education funding by scaling up Open Contracting Data systems in state basic education boards, training  and improving the management systems at state and national levels as a corruption prevention strategy.

 The Chairman Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASBEB),  Mr. Ugbaja, told the law makers that the teachers  training, which was held on the September 3 & 4, 2020 took place in six zones across the three senatorial zones in the state with the intervention fund from UBEC. Mr. Ugbaja also noted that through the fund, desks and chairs were being distributed to all the schools, including building of classroom blocks to improve on teaching and learning in the state.

The Chairman, House Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Mr. Ebele Ejiofor, while commending the Board for its programmes and initiatives, stated that the committee would embark on oversight to schools to ensure that funds made available for projects were utilised for the overall interest of the people.
