NYSC DIRECTS CORPS MEMBERS TO GET VACCINATED BEFORE DEC 1 DEADLINE

REPORTER: CHRISTIAN NWANGENE

Corps members serving in Enugu State have been told to take the COVID-19 vaccination before the first of December 2021 to avoid being embarrassed while entering public offices.

The Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the State, Mr. Sam Ujogu, sounded the note of warning while addressing the Batch C, stream 1 corps members at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Awgu.

Mr Ujogu, while congratulating the newly sworn in corps members, said the Federal Government had announced its plan to make presentation of evidence of COVID-19 vaccination by civil servants a pre-requisite for entry to public offices.

He emphasized that it was pertinent that all corps members in the state availed themselves of the vaccination process at any of the teaching hospitals in the state before the expiration of the deadline.

“I, therefor, encourage those of you, who are yet to take the vaccine to do so without further delay as the rule could apply to corps members in places of primary assignment.”

Earlier, while administering the oath of allegiance, the Chief Judge of Enugu State, represented by Justice Anthony Onovo, encouraged the corps members to contribute to the development of the country as it had over the years been confronted by economic, social and educational challenges.

“As you have been officially inaugurated as youth corps members, ensure you contribute your quota to the progress of Nigeria.

“The country is presently bedeviled by economic hardship and I urge you to play a vital role in contributing to the development of the country and not found culpable in any form that will mar the image of our beloved country,” the Judge advised.

The corps members, while pledging their commitment to serve, said they would discharge their duties which fell within the ambit of the NYSC act and by-laws.

One thousand, three hundred and forty-seven corps members consisting of six hundred and fifty males and six hundred and eighty-seven females were sworn in.
