NSCDC DESTROYS 6 ILLEGAL REFINERIES IN ABIA

REPORTER: LAWRENCE NWOKEDI

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abia State Command has destroyed six illegal refineries operating around Okohia Owaza in Ukwa West Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking with journalists in Umuahia, the Commandant of the Corps, Mr. Ayinla Olowo, said that the strategic thinking behind the operation was to ensure that both the buyers and sellers of stolen petroleum products were put out of business.

He noted that over ten cooking pots used in refining the illegal petroleum products by the vandals were also destroyed by his men.

The NSCDC boss pointed out that his men equally cut-off pipelines that were connected to four other illegal refineries by the vandals, stating that they could not destroy them due to its closeness to farmlands and residential buildings in the area.

Mr. Olowo used the opportunity to call on youths in the area to engage themselves on legitimate means of livelihood and avoid acts capable of putting them into problems.

He lauded the gallantry and professionism exhibited by men of his command in the discharge of their duties.
