The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abia State has arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in child labour, domestic violence and attempted murder against a minor in Aba.
Parading the suspects in Umuahia, the Commandant of the corps, Mr. Vincent Ogu, said that the two suspects, Emeka Igwe a native of Orlu in Imo State and Christiana Godwin from Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, were arrested for allegedly pushing down one Uduak Akpan, a thirteen years old house help, from a two storey building in Aba.
According to the Commandant, the suspects accused the little girl of stealing five thousand from the purse of her madam.
Mr. Ogu said that he received the information from the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Teenage Matters and immediately mobilized his men who rescued the victim and equally arrested the suspects.
In an interview, one of the suspects, Emeka Igwe, who is the victim’s master, denied pushing the girl down from the two storey building, claiming that he was only interrogating the victim over the missing money when she ran out from the room and jumped down from the building.
The victim, miss Uduak Akpan, in an interview confessed to have jumped from the building but said that she did it as a result of series of beatings she had received from her master and the wife in the room.
The NSCDC Commandant advised parents to take appropriate measures towards ensuring that their children were always safe in the hands of those they had been given out to as house helps.
