REPORTER: CHINAZO ILECHUKWU

The Joint Task Force fighting insecurity in the south east has assured residents of Imo State of the commitment of security agencies to protect lives and property before, during and after the forthcoming governorship election in the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Mr. Mohammed Barde, gave the assurance while briefing journalists at the end of a closed doors meeting held by Heads of security agencies that constitute the task force.

He advised politicians, who might want to engage thugs during the election, to have a rethink as security agencies would not tolerate any form of violence during the poll.

Mr. Barde gave an assurance that security agents would not interfere with the process, adding that they were determined to maintain neutrality.

The meeting, which was presided over by the Commander of the Joint Task Force and General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigeria Army Enugu, Major General Hassan Dada, had officials of the Independent national Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigerian Navy, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Police in attendance.
