A one day National Solemn Assembly for the country embarked upon by Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has ended in Awka Anambra State with a call on those perpetrating killings and causing insecurity in the country to have a rethink.

The prayer session was organized following the worsening security situation in Nigeria.

The prayer session, which took place in the 36 States of the country, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja had the theme, “Oh God, Heal Our Land.”

The women journalists during the procession that heralded the prayer carried placards with the inscriptions, “we want peace,” “stop the kidnapping,” “don’t make us a widow,” “oh God show us mercy and forgive our sins,” “stop the killings,” among others.

In an address, the Anambra State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Franklyn Onyekachi, who said the prayer was to seek God’s intervention concerning the present security situation in the country, noted that prayer was the only way out of the rising cases of killings and kidnappings across the country.

She emphasized that women were mostly affected because their sons and husbands were being killed daily.

Comrade Onyekachi noted that insecurity in the country had begun to hamper farming activities in Anambra State and the country in general.

The state financial Secretary of NAWOJ, Comrade Nnene Iloanya, who led the prayer session, took her text from 2nd Chronicles, chapter 7 verse 14, prayed God to grant wisdom to the leaders sustain peace and unity in Nigeria.

Two NAWOJ members, Comrade Ngozi Obileri and former National Treasurer NUJ, Comrade Monic Okechukwu, described the prayer as apt now that Nigeria was passing through difficult moments.

They asked God to comfort those families whose parents or children were killed as a result of insecurity.
