Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abubakar Lawal, has ordered Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and other relevant operational heads in his command to deploy policemen to flash points and other public places in the state ahead of the May Day and Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Daniel Ndukwe Ekea, says that the Police Commissioner also directed the policemen so deployed to be civil and work in line with the standard best practices.

“Accordingly, he has ordered Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Tactical/Operational Units of the Command to ensure the maximum deployment of the human, operational and intelligence assets at their disposal, to visibly patrol and police identified flashpoints, streets and other places of public interest.

“He cautioned them to ensure that personnel under them conduct themselves in the most acceptable manner, as they will be held vicariously liable for any lapses,” the statement read.

The statement further indicated that the Enugu State Police Command would collaborate with sister security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to ensure protection of lives and property during the double celebration.

The statement encouraged members of the public to be security conscious “and promptly report acts of crime and criminality to the nearest Police Station or by calling the Command’s emergency hotlines on: 08032003702, 08075390883 or 08086671202. They can also send emails to contact042ppro@gmail.com.”

The statement wished workers and Muslim faithful in the state a happy celebration, urging the workers to continue to uphold the dignity of labour while asking the Muslim faithful to keep praying for the peace and security of the State and nation at large.
