LOOMING DANGER AS FUEL TANK FALLS AT ASSUMPTA CATHEDRAL OWERRI

There was panic in front of Asumpta Cathedral Owerri popularly known as Control post, as a tanker fully ladened with Automative Gas Oil AGO fell while trying to negotiate the roundabout. The tanker was said to have been coming from Port Harcourt Road area of the state and heading towards Onitsha road.
The situation however caused heavy vehicular traffick. According to an eye witness, the tanker which fell early Wednesday morning during a down pour, spilled contents of four of its five coaches on the road. The Special Adviser to the Imo State Governor on Public Safety, Mr. Ugochukwu Nzekwe, advised Owerri residents to avoid plying that road and take alternate routes while the government tried to avoid fire outbreak.
“A tanker fell here. So we are trying to make sure we control the situation so that people cannot enter into any kind of problem.
“If there’s any fore hazard, it will affect a lot of people. So, what we are trying to do is to cordon off these places and make sure people are safe,” the Special Adviser stated.
When Radio Nigeria visited the area, though it was cordoned off by officers of the fire service people were seen scooping the petroleum product into containers.
