ANAMBRA LAUNCHES 2ND PHASE OF COVID-19 VACCINATION

Anambra State Government has  commenced the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination in the state using morderna and AstraZeneca vaccines. Governor Willie Obiano officially kick-started the vaccination at the  Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka.

Speaking during event, Governor Obiano urged the people to fill the online form to queue up for vaccination. While pointing out that he had taken his own jab, the Governor warned that despite being vaccinated, people should still maintain the protocol till every person around them must have been vaccinated.

The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Chioma Ezenyimulu, who said that about 62,000 people were vaccinated. Dr. Ezenyimulu noted that the state received 58,100 doses of moderna and 13,792 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

She commended the WHO, UNICEF, AFENET among others, who had  worked tirelessly by providing technical support and funds for trainings at the state and local government Area as well as payment of vaccination teams leading to the success story. The State Coordinator, World Health Organization, Mr. Chukwumuanya Igboekwu, who said that Anambra State had made tremendous progress in containing the virus, lamented that people were still not keen in taking their COVID-19 jab.

He also called for revitalization of the primary health agencies in the area.

Earlier the Commissioner for Health Dr. Vincent Okpala, said the state, had two weeks ago, recorded over one hundred cases of COVID-19 and urged people to always observe the COVID-19 laid down guidelines.  Some of the people who were vaccinated commended both state and federal governments for doing the needful.
