JUBILATION AS SOLUDO INAUGURATES 26KM ROAD IN AWKA NORTH

REPORTER: BEN ILECHUKWU

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has inaugurated for the 26Km Amansea-Ebenebe-Ugbenu-Ugbene-Awba Ofemili roads in Awka North Local Government Area.

It was excitement galore for the people of Awka North as they leaped for joy to witness Governor Soludo inaugurate the roads.

Addressing the people, Governor Soludo recalled with nostalgia the historical significance of the long stretch road.

He observed that people used to spend hours moving by that road due to its bad condition as it had never been asphalted but expressed happiness they could travel on the same road now in 20 minutes.

Governor Soludo described the area as one of the food baskets of the state, expressing the hope that the road would stimulate the economy and improve the life of the people in the area.

The Governor said the completion of the road was in fulfillment of his campaign promises over the deplorable condition of roads in the state, which prompted him to declare a state of emergency on all Anambra State roads.

Earlier in a remark, the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North Local Government Area, Mr. ThankGod Anagor, thanked the Governor for fulfilling his campaign promise to the people, even as he pledged continued support by the people for his administration.

Mr. Anagor added that the road had aided the smooth transportation of their agricultural produce and attracted many people from neighbouring communities to patronize them.

The Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Mr. Chikodili Anara, expressed happiness with the road, which he said had paved the way for customers to patronize their farm produce.

The Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ifeanyi Okoma, explained that the roads were constructed according to specifications with stone based stabilization and completed in record time.

Highpoint of the event was the significant cutting of tape by the representatives of commercial tricycle (keke) drivers and shuttle buse operators as well as the elderly assisted by some clergymen.
