The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has created a portal to upload and monitor results generated from polling units during the forthcoming Imo North Senatorial district by-election.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo State, Professor Francis Ezeonu, made this known during a meeting with journalists in Owerri. He said the measure was part of efforts to enhance transparency in the electoral process. Professor Ezeonu explained that the election, scheduled to hold on October 31, would be conducted in strict compliance to COVID-19 preventive protocol.

He stated that voting would take place across six local government areas that constitute Imo North Senatorial district otherwise described as Okigwe Zone. Professor Ezeonu hinted that the Commission would soon disclose the names of candidates submitted by political parties to jostle for the seat.

The Imo North Senatorial District Seat became vacant following the death of Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu in December 2019.
