The Chairman, Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), Abia State Council, Comrade Ogbonnaya Okoro, has called on all members of the union to obey the instructions given by the national body concerning the ongoing strike. Comrade Ogbonnaya made the call while addressing them at the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia. He said JOHESU embarked upon a seven-day warning strike and not indefinite, stressing that members of the union should observe all protocol pending further directives by the national body.

In an interview with our correspondent, the state Secretary, National Association of Nurses and Midwives and member of JOHESU, Comrade Chidi Aligwe, highlighted some of the demands of the Union.

These included that the Federal Government should pay completely their COVID-19 inducement allowance and release the illegally withheld April and May 2018 salaries as well as adjustment in COHELS structure.

Comrade Chidi asked patients and the public to hold Federal Government responsible for any inconveniences the strike could cause. Some other people who spoke with Radio Nigeria, including Mrs. Chinwendu Okechukwu and Mr. Ekele Madu, called for speedy resolution of the disagreement between JOHESU and Federal Government in the interest of the masses. JOHESU is comprised of all other workers union in the hospital outside the doctors.
