INDEPENDENCE: EBONYI STATE GOVT PURCHASES 100 CNG BUSES FOR WORKERS, DISTRIBUTES PALLITIVES

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has called on the people of the state to emulate the sacrifices of the nation’s foremost nationalists whose modest efforts gave birth to the Independence of Nigeria and the creation of the state.

He made the call at the Grand Finale of the Nation’s 63rd Independence Celebration and 27th Anniversary for the creation of the state at Government House Abakaliki.

It was the first time Independence Day in Ebonyi State was celebrated inside Government House Abakaliki as Governor Francis Nwifuru had earlier directed Local Government Chairmen to organize march past for school children at Council Headquarters to rekindle old memories.

A detachment of the Nigerian Police from Ebonyi State Command mounted a parade where the Governor took three hearty cheers.

Governor Nwifuru noted that for Nigeria to be great, the citizens must make sacrifices and collaborate with the government to continue to build on the foundation laid by the founding fathers of the country.

He announced the procurement of four 100 seater CNG Buses that would be conveying workers to their duty post free of charge and called on the people of the state not to be deterred by the prevailing challenges in the country.

A former Governor of the State, Chief Martin Elechi, said though development comes with turbulence and tribulations, Nigerians should be happy to be independent to take decisions and actions deemed necessary to resolve their problems.

There was interdenominational service at Government House Chapel where prayers were offered for Nigeria and her leaders.

The state government and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) also used the opportunity to launch the distribution of relief materials to victims of flood disaster and subsidy palliatives to the people of the state.
