INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY: SOUTH EAST STANDS TO BENEFIT MORE IN A UNITED NIGERIA— GOV UZODIMMA

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has called on Nigerians to rededicate themselves to peaceful coexistence by imbibing the spirit of brotherhood and compromise to strengthen the unity of the country.

At a ceremony to mark this year’s Independence anniversary in Owerri, the Governor stressed the need for a concerted effort to build on the sacrifices of the heroes past and bequeath a virile nation where justice and equity thrived.

Governor Uzodimma congratulated Nigerians on their resilience and doggedness towards sustaining the unity of the country, noting that President Muhammadu Buhari had provided inspirational leadership at the most trying times of the nationhood.

He said time had come for the south east to re-evaluate the recent activities of her youths as that had affected relationship with other Nigerians, the economy of the zone and aspirations of the people.

Governor Uzodimma who advocated constructive engagement with the Federal Government in addressing whatever grievances Ndigbo have, insisted that the people of the south east stood to benefit more in a united Nigeria where justice and equity prevail.

He called on well meaning citizens of the state to join hands with his administration to address the numerous challenges facing the state, adding that the Federal Government had approved numerous interventions to better the lots of the people.

Governor Uzodimma expressed worry about the seeming lack of interest of people in taking COVID-19 vaccine despite the devastative effects of the virus.

He warned that the government might be compelled to make administration of the vaccine compulsory for everyone in the state.

The event featured a match past by members of the armed forces, the Police and other paramilitary agencies with Governor Uzodimma taking salute.
