IMO STATE: GOV. INAUGURATES 100 BED ISOLATION CENTRE FOR COVID-19

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has inaugurated a one hundred bed space capacity isolation and treatment centre for COVID-19 donated by a financial institution.

The centre, which is well equipped with state of the art facilities, is located at the Imo State University Teaching Hospital, Orlu. At the brief ceremony Governor Uzodimma appealed to residents of the state to continue to adhere to guidelines given by government and health professionals to win the battle against coronavirus.

The Governor noted that Imo had not recorded any death arising from COVID-19 pandemic and vowed to continue to take measures that would help to contain the virus. Governor Uzodimma attributed non-payment of salaries of staff  of the hospital to non compliance with the directive to submit relevant data of workers by the management.

The Chairman Taskforce on COVID-19 in the state, Professor Maurice Iwu, described the isolation and treatment centre as one of the best in the country, noting that the hospital was being repositioned to handle other health challenges.

Radio Nigeria gathered that more than four thousand health workers have been trained at both the state and community levels on ways of mitigating the COVID-19 pandemic.
