ANAMBRA STATE: GOV. ASSENTED COVID-19 AND PROCUREMENT BILLS INTO LAW

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has assented two new bills into law. They are COVID-19 and Other Dangerous Infectious Disease, Prevention and Eradication Law 2020 as well as the Public Procurement Amendment Law 2020.

Signing the bills into law at the Governor’s lodge Amawbia, Governor Willie Obiano said that the two laws were very important to the state. The Governor explained that the COVID-19 law would help in fighting the pandemic currently ravaging the entire globe.

Governor Obiano urged the people to ensure that they complied with the COVID-19 protocol as the law would be strictly enforced in the area. He commended the House of Assembly members for seeing to the speedy passage of the bills.

Earlier, the State Attorney- General and Commissioner for Justice, Mrs. Uju Nwogu, explained that Anambra State had been in the forefront of fighting the pandemic, noting that the law would help to prevent, eradicate and deal with issues of lockdown, among others. Mrs. Nwogu emphasised that the law also mandated the general public to keep to the pandemic protocol and the use of face masks.

On the Public Procurement Amendment Law 2020, the Attorney- General observed that it would bring to public notice what government is doing and helps to keep to the rules of procurement procedures.

The Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Speaker of the state Assembly were among other top government functionaries graced the event.
