Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has been urged to respect the principle of equity and fairness in appointing a new Chairman for the state Council of Traditional Rulers.
Addressing a news conference in Owerri, a group under the aegis of Okigwe Leaders Assembly appealed to the Governor to consider a traditional ruler from Okigwe zone for the position.
Chairman of the group, Mr. Innocent Obiefule, noted that Orlu and Owerri zones have had shots at the seat for nine years each, pointing out that it was only fair for the successor of Eze Samuel Ohiri to come from Okigwe zone.
Mr. Obiefule described as worrisome a media report and rumours making the rounds that Orlu zone was being considered for the office by the Governor.
He called on influential indigenes of Okigwe zone to throw their weight behind this agitation to actualise the course, noting that it was against natural justice, equity and good conscience to deny Okigwe zone of the opportunity.
In the meantime, Eze Samuel Ohiri had in a news conference in his Obi Orodo, Mbaitoli Local Government Area palace reminded the state government that he was yet to exhaust his second term as elected chairman of the council.
