The Imo State Police Command says it has arrested four policemen serving in the state for allegedly dehumanizing civilians in Orlu community, Orlu Local Government Area of the state.
In an interview with Radio Nigeria in Owerri, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Orlando Ikeokwu, said the action followed a viral video where the officers were seen flogging five persons while they were lying on the floor.
He explained that the command under the new Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nasiru Mohammed, would not condone unethical and unprofessional conduct from personnel of the Command.
Mr. Ikeokwu cautioned policemen, especially those operating in Orlu, to respect the rights of citizens, noting that anyone caught doing otherwise would face the law.
Mr. Ikeokwu urged members of the public to always report any infringement on their rights by men of the command through some dedicated phone lines or directly to the Commissioner of Police for prompt action.
Stakeholders in Orlu have been condemning the recent killings in the area while calling for withdrawal of security operatives from the community and its environs to reduce tension and pave way for peaceful resolution of the crisis.
