FG’s CONDITIONAL CASH TRANSFER APPLAUDED FOR PROVIDING SUCCOUR TO THE VULNERABLE
Some residents of Ihiala community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anmabra State have applauded the Federal Government for its Conditional Cash Transfer, CCT Initiative which they said has assisted a good number of vulnerable families in the area.
According to them, the programme if sustained would remove many people from the poverty index of the country.
The Conditional Cash Transfer initiative is one of the Social Investment Programmes introduced by the Federal Government with the aim of reducing poverty in the country.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Mary Nzerioha commended the initiative saying it had gone a long way in ameliorating the sufferings of her family.
Another beneficiary, Mr Ephraim Enwerem who said he had been receiving five thousand naira monthly for the past three years, said he had been able to pay his children’s school fees and put food on the table for his family.
A resident of Azia , Ichie Titus Obiefuna commended President Muhamadu Buhari for the kind gesture, which he noted had empowered many recipients to embrace agriculture.
Miss Cynthia Enweji Obilinisiuzor who also had been receiving the stipend for more than two years now, appreciated the Federal Government for fulfilling its promise.
She however said that there was the need to set up skills acquisition centres across the country specifically for the beneficiaries or offer automatic employment to one member from each of the identified poor families.
For Chief Mathew Mbaukwu, the programme is helping in the fight against poverty but appealed that more names should be included in the list of the National Social Register.
Happily President Muhammadu Buhari recently in a nationwide broadcast approved the expansion of the Social Register to accommodate more Nigerians especially in this trying time brought about by COVID-19.
The Household Uplifting Programme (HUP) otherwise known as the Conditional Cash Transfer aims at responding to deficiencies in capacity and lack of investment in human capital of poor and vulnerable households.
The Programme Coordinator in Anambra State, Mr Raphael Enukora explains that the CCT focuses on the poor and vulnerable households as identified through a combination of geographic and community based.
He noted that the identified household’s socioeconomic data was subjected to Proxy Means Testing (PMT) for ranking the poor and vulnerable in the National Social Register.
