COVD-19 LOCKDOWN: RISING CASES OF THEFT WORRY RESIDENTS OF AGBAMA ESTATE

Residents of Agbama Housing Estate in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State have decried the rising incidents of theft in the area.

They made their feelings known while interacting with Radio Nigeria on activities of criminals in the area since the commencement of the lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the State.

One of them, Mr Chibuike Aguwa said shop owners and residents now live in fear as a result of criminals who break into people’s shops and homes to steal and called on security agencies to live up to their responsibility.

Also, a Civil servant, Mr Chinedu Okwara noted that life had not been easy following the sit at home directive, pointing out that most families could no longer meet up with their daily needs.

He urged the State Government to extend palliatives to workers to cushion to effects of the lockdown.

Mr Okwara also advised the State Government to ensure prompt payment of workers salaries to enable them to meet their family demands.

The respondents, who commended efforts of the State Government on measures to curb the spread of the pandemic, also called for increased
palliative packages to the people.
