REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

The Federal Government says it is committed to ensuring quality road construction as it is a critical component of ease of doing business in Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari stated this in a message to the inauguration of 40.27 kilometres road linking Ebonyi and Enugu States held at Ezinato in Aninri Local Government Area.

The 40.27 kilometre road linking Ebonyi and Enugu States is of two sections covering Nenwe-Uduma and terminating in Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area while the second section measuring fourteen kilometres covers De Spur to Ishiagu Mile 2 in Ivo Local Government Area.

Represented by the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, President Buhari explained that the Federal Government had entered into a season of completion and delivery of projects as his administration entered into its final lap.

He noted that the his administration under a ‘change mantra’ was committed to restoring lane markings and route assurances, which before now disappeared in road infrastructure.

He warned road users to desist from all forms of abuse of the nation’s Highways.

The Minister of Works, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, represented by the Director South East Highways, Works and Housing, Mr. Bola Agalaba, said ongoing Federal road projects across the country represented major investment in road transport as a driver for economic growth and prosperity.

The Federal Controller of Works in Ebonyi State, Mr. Kenneth Ogbuagu, stated that the Ministry had constructed Weigh Bridges at most Arterial Routes to check over loading, which was the major cause of road failures across the country.

Some members of the benefitting communities commended President Buhari for approving funds for the completion of the road.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the 40.27km Nenwe, Uduma, Uburu-Spur-Ishiagu Mile trials was awarded during President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
