FEDERAL LAWMAKER OFFSETS SSCE FEES OF INDIGENT STUDENTS

Over 1,000 Senior Secondary School Students from Aninri, Awgu and Oji River Federal Constituency have had their Senior Secondary Certificate Examination registration fees paid by a member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing the area, Chief Toby Okechukwu.

The event was held at Awgu Local Government Council Headquarters.

The beneficiaries who were mostly indigent students were drawn from Secondary Schools in Anirnri, Awgu and Oji River Local Government Areas.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy President of the Senate, Chief Ike Ekweremadu said education remained a veritable tool to equip individual with the vital skills and knowledge to survive and contribute positively to society.

Chief Ekweremadu who advocated strong partnership between Government and Private Sector to create enabling environment for quality education in the country, commended Chief Toby Okechukwu for taking the bold step.

In separate  speeches, the Commissioner for Education, Professor  Uche Eze, the Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate on Political Matters, Dr. Godwin Udeuhele and a former Council Chairman in Awgu Local Government, Chief NnamaniNze described the project as life changing and encouraged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by coming out with good results.

The benefactor and Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Works, Chief Toby Okechukwu said the idea was to  give back to the society, for the trust reposed in him and assured  the people of continued quality representation.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed their joy for the assistance and promised to shun vices for a bright future.

The event had in attendance Principals from the benefiting Schools, Traditional Rulers, the Academia and the Political class.
