The Victim Support Fund COVID-19 Task Force has donated food items and personal protective equipment to three thousand households in Imo State.

At the ceremony in Owerri, the Chairman of the Fund, General Theophilus Danjuma, said the intervention was part of efforts to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 on vulnerable groups in the society.

He said the organisation was complementing the efforts of the government by providing food, portable water, hygiene and health care equipment to rural communities in the country.

General Danjuma, who was represented by the Chairperson of the Victim Support Fund, Mrs. Toyosi Ogunsiji, explained that the intervention would be rounded off in the remaining six states and urged the Imo State government to ensure that the items got to the people they were meant for.

The Imo State Governor, Chief Hope Uzodimma, represented by the Deputy Governor, Professor Placid Njoku, commended the donors, noting that COVID-19 had devastating effects on the economy and lives of the people.

Items donated to households in Imo State were rice, beans, garri, vegetable oil, hand sanitizers, face masks and rain boots.

The Task Force earlier inaugurated a solar-powered borehole at Central School, Umuokire, Okuku in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state to serve the school and people of the community.
