CHIKE OLEMGBE EMERGES IMO ASSEMBLY SPEAKER, PLEDGES SUPPORT TO UZODIMMA LED GOVT

The Imo State House of Assembly has elected the member representing Ihitte-Uboma Constituency, Mr. Chike Olemgbe as the Speaker of the 10th Assembly.

Mr. Olemgbe, who is a first time lawmaker, was unanimously elected by the 27 members of the state legislature shortly after the inauguration of the House.

Also elected is Chief Amara Iwuanyanwu, representing Nwangele constituency, who returned as the Deputy Speaker of the House after serving in the same capacity in the 9th assembly.

The Speaker, Mr. Olemgbe, who thereafter took oath of office, promised to collaborate with his colleagues to achieve institutional reforms and come up with legislations that would impact positively on the lives of the people.

The Assembly was inaugurated after a letter of proclamation from Governor Hope Uzodimma was read at the floor of the House, by the Clerk, Mrs. Chinelo Emeghara.

Meanwhile, Governor Hope Uzodimma says his administration needs a robust legislature that will help it to vigorously tackle poverty and unemployment.

He stated this when members of the State House of Assembly visited him at the Government House, Owerri, to present the new Speaker, Mr. Chike Olemgbe to him.

Governor Uzodimma urged the lawmakers to prioritize the welfare of citizens, noting that his administration was committed to developing the state.

The Speaker, had promised to work in synergy with other arms of government to enable them to achieve their goals.

He extolled the leadership qualities of Governor Uzodimma and pledged to maintain a conducive environment for the government to succeed.

Radio Nigeria gathered that this is the first time the 27 member parliament is being constituted without a female representation since the return of democracy in 1999.
