BETH ROOTS SECONDARY SCHOOL ONITSHA WINS THE 6TH NDLEA QUIZ COMPETITION

Students have advised to engage in extra curriculum activities to keep them off from drug abuse.

The Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra State, Mr. Sule Momodu gave the advice during the presentation of prizes to the winners of the 6th Edition of NDLEA Quiz Competition held in Awka.

The event was part of efforts by the agency to sensitize students to the need to keep away from drug abuse.

Mr. Momodu, who expressed worry over the number of schools participating in the event said the attitude of students and teachers to the competition was not encouraging.

The Deputy Chairman, Post Primary School Service Commission in the State, Mrs. Pat Ofia, assured the agency that the Commission would tackle the poor attitude of teachers and students to the competition head on.

In a remark, the traditional ruler of Ogidi Community, Igwe Alex Onyido, who chaired the event, charged the students to remain focused on their academic studies and desist from engaging in drug abuse.

At the end of the competition, Beth Roots Secondary School Onitsha came first, Babendoff Memorial Grammar School, Adazi Nnukwu came second while Community Secondary School Umuoba-Anam took the third position.

Three students from each school participated in the event.

Students that took the first position got HP Laptop, TV set, a bag containing books, a band and thirty thousand Naira each while the students of the schools that clinched second and third positions received a TV sets, a standing fan, a bag containing books and thirty thousand Naira each for their WASC examination.

One of the students that came first, Miss Onyinye Nwobodo, expressed appreciation to the agency for the opportunity given to them to partake in the event.

Over two hundred students across the state attended the event.
