GOV OBIANO INAUGURATES MOTHER & CHILD REFERRAL CENTRE IN AWKA

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has inaugurated the newly constructed Mother and Child Referral Center at the Chukwiemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital AMAKU Awka. The Governor also inaugurated a Dialysis Centre, a Private Ward, and a 64 Slide CT Scan.
Governor Obiano, explained that the Mother and Child Referral Center was born out of the need to reduce the death rate being experienced during child brith. While thanking the sponsor, Hovernor Obiano urged the people of the state to avail them themselves of the opportunity by joining AhISA.
He also explained that his administration had distributed over hundred tricycle (keke) ambulances to hard to reach areas of the state primary health centers as well as renovated over 300 primary health centers to boost health care in the area. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala, said that the governor had matched words with action in his vision of having a flagship hospital in the state.
A representative of the sponsor, Mr. Sheyi Orenuga, noted that they were glad partnering Anambra State Government in saving one million of lives in Nigeria. The Chief Medical Director, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Awka, Dr. Joe Akabuike, noted
that maternal and neonatal mortality were very rare in developed world unlike in the developing world, including Nigeria, where the figures were still frightening. This, according to Dr. Akabuike, necessitated the present administration’s decision to make pregnancy and delivery safe as well as protect the lives of the new born.
