ANAMBRA GUBER: INEC BEGINS DISTRIBUTION OF SENSITIVE MATERIALS TO 21 LGAs

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of Sensitive Materials for this Saturday’s Governorship Election in Anambra State.

The distribution, which took place at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Office, Awka, was supervised by top management team of INEC led by the Supervisory National Commissioner for the Election, Mr. Festus Okoye.

Among the sensitive materials distributed were Ballot Papers, Result Sheets and Biometric Voter Accreditation System, (BVAS) machines.

Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Festus Okoye who is also the Chairman of INEC Information and Voter Education Committee, noted that political parties and Civil Society Organizations were invited to monitor the programme as part of measures to ensure transparency in the electoral process.

He enumerated that the seven Resident Electoral Commissioners, who were in the state for the election, would each supervise three Local Government Areas.

Mr. Okoye announced that the distribution started from the remotest Local Governments, affirming that its offices were properly protected.

He reiterated the commitment of the commission to overcome its challenges and ensure a credible poll.

The INEC Director of Operations, Mr A. T. Yusuf, affirmed that the electoral materials were serialized as a security measure.

The PDP Agent, Dr. Alex Obi-Ogbolu and the APGA Agent, Mr. Tony Ifeanya, expressed satisfaction with the openness of INEC in the distribution.

Also, the APC Agent, Mr. Chukwuma Agudosi, noted that the electoral body had shown tremendous improvement in its procedures with creative innovations.
