FIRST PHASE OF COVID-19 VACCINATION TO LAST 10 DAYS IN EBONYI AS GOV UMAHI GETS VACCINATED

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has been vaccinated against COVID-19 at Government House Abakaliki.

Chief Umahi received Oxford Astrazeneca jab alongside his Deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, while their wives were vaccinated privately.

Speaking at the event, Governor Umahi explained that the public vaccination was to demonstrate to the people of the state that the vaccine was safe.

He however emphasized that the vaccination was not compulsory and directed the state committee to ensure that the first phase of the exercise was concluded within ten days.

The Governor mentioned health workers, top government functionaries and tertiary institutions in the state as part of first recipients and mandated the Deputy Governor to track the distribution and vaccination.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezuruike, said the state government would follow national guideline on vaccination and had set up five centres for the jab in every local government area of the state.
