GOV IKPEAZU RECEIVES FIRST DOSE OF COVID-19 VACCINE

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has called for active participation of individuals and groups recommended for the Coronavirus vaccination to achieve the goals of the exercise.

Governor Ikpeazu made the call at Government House Umuahia shortly after he received the first dose of the Oxford Astrazeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

The Governor noted that the introduction of the vaccine, approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and other agencies, was aimed at combating the global pandemic.

In a remark, the Executive Secretary Abia State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Chinagozi Adindu, explained that the vaccine had been certified safe and effective, saying that people were required to receive two doses of the vaccine between 8 and 12 weeks interval.

According to the Commissioner, the state received enough quantity of the vaccine for the first phase of excercis and listed members of the State COVID-19 Inter Ministerial Task Force, law enforcement agencies and frontline health workers among those expected to receive it.
