INEC CHARGED TO FIX CARD READER PROBLEMS AHEAD OF SATURDAY’S GOVERNORSHIP POLLS

The National Independent Electoral Commission, INEC has been asked to address the inadequacies found in the card reader during the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Panelists on “Political Watch”, a Radio Nigeria Enugu National Network Programme made the call during the live interactive show.
One of them, a former member Enugu State House of Assembly, Mr. Nwabueze Ugwu alleged that many voters were disenfranchised due to malfunctioning of card readers.
He regretted that the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly election fell short of standard in many areas and called on the electoral umpire to ensure that many of the lapses were corrected this Saturday.
The All Progressive Grand Alliance Governorship candidate, Enugu State, Mr. Bede Chukwuekezie said it was unfortunate that the country was relying on foreign observers to assist its election.
According to Mr. Chukwuekezie, Nigeria should build its human capacity rather than believing in foreign observers who he alleged may have other interest.
Some of the people who called into the programme expressed disappointment in the electoral body while others pointed out that there was no perfect election anywhere in the world, but called for improvement in subsequent elections.
