ARMED FORCES & REMEMBRANCE DAY: ABIA GOVT EXTOLS CONTRIBUTIONS OF SECURITY OPERATIVES

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has commended the patriotic contributions and sacrifices of the Nigerian Armed forces in the fight against banditry, insurgency, armed armed robbery and secessionists in the country

Governor Ikpeazu made the commendation in a message to the closing ceremony of 2022 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day celebration in Umuahia.

The Governor represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Ude Okochukwu, said that government would continue to recognize the contributions of the fallen heroes who laid down their lives in ensuring that Nigeria remained peaceful, united and secured.

He noted that the achievements of the Nigerian Legion, Abia State, would not be over emphasized in the training of security personnel for churches, schools, banks and other establishments.

Governor Ikpeazu maintained that his administration would not relent in prioritizing security and partner the Nigerian Legion alongside other security agencies in fight against crime and other forms of criminality in the state.

The Chairman Nigerian Legion in Abia State, Commander Ambrose Nnabugwu (Retd) commended the state government in its support towards the welfare of the members of the legion in the state.

Abia State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Rose Urienta, said government had mapped out strategies to tackle any problem Nigerian legion might be facing in the state.

Highlight of the event was the laying of wreaths at the cenotaph of the unknown solider by the Governor’s representative; the Commander 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Ohafia; the Commandant Nigerian Naval School of logistics, Owerrinta; the Commissioner of Police, Abia State; the Chairman Nigerian Legion Abia State, amongst others.

The Deputy Governor later released white pigeons, which signified peace in the state.
