TRAD. & RELIGIOUS LEADERS URGED TO GUIDE THEIR FOLLOWERS TOWARDS VOTING FOR CREDIBLE LEADERS

Traditional and religious leaders are advised to properly guide their followers towards electing credible persons into public offices to guarantee good governance in the country.

Guests on a Radio Nigeria Enugu Political Zonal Programme, “Political Watch” gave the advice.

One of them, the Chairman Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Lawrence Agubuzu said as the chief security officers of their communities, traditional rulers should be able to know the characters of their people and tell the people the most qualified persons to occupy positions.

Igwe Agubuzu who warned against receiving undue gratification from politicians maintained that if a candidate had been rejected by his own people, it would be difficult for such politician to excel.

Another guest, the second Vice President, Nigeria Pastors Association of South Africa, Pastor Mike Ugwu challenged religious leaders to devote much time to pray for peaceful elections and for God fearing leaders to emerge victorious.

Pastor Ugwu who blamed bad government to the crop of people occupying political positions, called on Christians to play active role in the next month’s elections.

Callers in the programme believed that traditional and religious leaders had vital roles to play in elections and urged them to also speak the truth at all times to avoid misleading the public.
