GOV. OBIANO URGED TO DIRECT MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT TO ENFORCE SINGLE-LANE CULTURE

The Anambra State House of Assembly has appealed to Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Ministry of Transportation and the State Traffic Management Agency to enforce single-lane culture to ease traffic gridlock in the State.

The resolution followed a motion raised under Matters of Urgent Public Importance by the member representing Onitsha North One Constituency, Mr. Douglas Egbuna, regretted the activities of motorists and tricycle operators who drove recklessly and flouted traffic rules and regulations in the State.

Mr. Egbuna said a lot of man hour were lost due to traffic congestions caused by non-adherence to traffic rule.

Contributing to the motion, the member representing Anambra East Constituency, Mr. Obinna Emeneka explained that all relevant agencies charged with the responsibility of maintaining the free flow of traffic in the State should sit-up.

The member representing Dunukofia Constituency, Mr. Lawrence Ezeudu pointed out that impatience on the part of motorists, especially tricycle operators, was one big factor responsible for the gridlock in the State.

The Speaker of the House, Mr. Uche Okafor was of the opinion that many accidents in the State were caused, because many road users were always impatient and did not adhere to single-lane culture.

He urged road users to always be patient and obey traffic laws.
